The crumbly truth of stepping in for one another.
When you step in for each other.
I was unable to be part of the schooling upon this day for half the army, but thanks to the documenting of my comrade-at-arms, the Countess Becca, I was able to piece together some highlights of what they learned, did, and covered.
The Good Book
They read the story of The Good Samaritan. A 3-year old wanted to also learn more about the story where Jesus died. They talked about the verse “love your neighbor as yourself.”
Also discussed was the idea of honesty and of telling the truth even when it’s hard. She talked about cookie-making yesterday, and reminded them of how their dad had baked with them and given instructions to not eat the cookie dough. Fortunately or unfortunately, there was a camera going while his back was turned, so it wasn’t until later that it was learned that one child did, in fact, get into the cookie dough. There was difficulty owning up to this factual reality when confronted.
Viewing: some shorts on YouTube about honesty, including one concerning a Mr. Howard Wigglebottom
Reading and such
A 5-year old dived into a kindergarten workbook with zest and zeal. Upon completing these they read through BOB books, collection 1, books 1-3 together.
A 3-year old carefully practiced counting and letters, along with drawing.
Break
There was a break for more reading and cookies. What was the reading?
The beloved Berenstain Bears. This one entitled, coincidentally…The Berenstain Bears and the Truth.
Other readings of note:
How the Cookie Crumbled
Seamu’s Short Story
Iced Out

Building with magnets.
Inviting their Grandpa to come walk to the creek with them.
Going to pick grapes and tomatoes from their grandparents’ garden.

It is an incredible and beautiful thing to raise children with someone you love and trust and who you know brings a host of complementary perspectives, skills, and sets of knowledge.
There is a type of weariness that is also tinged with a smile and a glad heart, and this what I came to, and it made me happy as well.
